Coaching Staff

Mark Sutton

Club Director/Head Coach

He is a retired teacher from the Toronto District School Board with over 40 years of experience in coaching. He has been coaching volleyball for over 40 plus years in the Scarborough area at the school and club level, with a number of his students and athletes, going on to becoming successful College and University level players.

Gary Huang


Is in his second season of coaching with the Scarborough Synergy Volleyball Club.  He has had a role in developing and coaching every team within the club.  He is full of energy and has a positive calming and influential style of coaching which has endeared him to all the players.  His volleyball playing days include Chinese 9-Man and school.  He enjoys physical fitness and in particular working on his speed, agility and vertical jumping. 

Lauren Wong


Played with Scarborough Titans club from 2011 to 2018.  She has won numerous awards and most recently received both the Evelyn Hollick Award and Jason Senechal Memorial awards in 2018.  She has been coaching volleyball since 2014 and is a local Level indoor volleyball referee, upgrading to the Provincial level.  

Francois Marfo


Coach of the 16U Synergy team.  Francois is an experienced volleyball player who is coming into his first year of coaching.  He played with the Scarborough Titans Volleyball Club from 14U to 17U and then the Durham Attack Volleyball Club in 18U.  He had a brief stint with York Lions in 2013/14 as a Libero, then decided to focus on his passion for teaching.  Currently he is in his last year of teachers college and is excited about the opportunity to work with the `16U girls team.  He is an energetic and knowledgeable coach who is focused on athlete development.  Francois is an in-training development coach.  He looks forward to the season ahead and growing with this 16U team.

Tuck Yiong


Tuck is now in his second year as a coach with Synergy Titanium.  Tuck is passionate about working with players and teams using his prior experience as an athlete competing at many levels of competitions.  Tuck strongly believes in developing team players and that hard work can achieve great results.  He's currently working on competing his NCCP level 1 certificates.

Gary Wang


Gary is coaching our Synergy HighOctane and OverDrive teams.  He is a high school teacher from Toronto District School Board with almost 20 years of experience.  He has been coaching volleyball for 5 years and is excited to be involved with the club and establish a level of excellence for our young players.

Andrew Ming


This is Andrew's first season coaching at the Rep level and is excited to be part of Synergy.  He is a Health & Physical Education teacher in the Toronto District School Board of 21 years, with experience as a guidance counselor and science.  He has coached boys, girls and co-ed school teams with wonderful memories every year and has played in both the OVA and 9-Man circuit.   

Oklend Llakaj


Oklend is in his first year of coaching volleyball and his final year as a Sport Management student at Humber College. He is focused on athlete development and also has a great interest in sport psychology which he plans to implement while coaching. Oklend has a passion for volleyball and wishes to see it develop into career opportunities.

Scarborough Synergy Volleyball Club is looking for Head & Assistant Coaches for the 2019/20 season. These are volunteer positions, although we do offer an honorarium depending on qualifications, and we offer full training and assistance for aspiring coaches.  Successful applicants should enjoy working with youth and demonstrate integrity and a willingness to learn.
